Privacy Policy

Web Archive Viewer is operated by Ritwick Halder ("we", "us"). This policy covers the Chrome extension and the website at webinternetarchive.com.
Web Archive Viewer is a browser extension that looks up the page you are on (or any URL you paste) across public web archives such as the Wayback Machine and Archive.today. Finding and opening archived pages never requires an account. Signing in is optional and only needed for Pro features and the cloud research library.
What we process
- Current tab URL: The extension reads the address of the active tab only when you open the popup (the activeTab permission). The URL is used to build archive links and, if you use data features, sent to our API to look up captures. It is not stored beyond a short server-side cache of the archive response.
- Recent lookups: The last 12 URLs you looked up are kept in the extension’s local storage on your device only, and can be cleared from the popup.
- Account: If you sign in with Google (Supabase Auth), we process your account id, email, name and avatar to authenticate you and apply your plan. The extension stores a session token on your device so it can call our API on your behalf.
- Research library: Items you save (URL, archive, capture timestamp, title, note, tags) are stored on your device on the Free plan and, on Pro, in our database linked to your account so they sync across devices.
- Archive lookups: Our API forwards lookups to public archives (archive.org, archive-it.org, arquivo.pt and others) and caches their answers for up to 24 hours. We never store archived page bodies.
- Payments: Paid plans are processed by Paddle, our merchant of record; we do not store your full card number on our servers. We keep the Paddle subscription and customer ids needed to apply your plan.
- Support & feedback: Messages you send through the contact form, the extension feedback form or the anonymous uninstall survey are stored so we can reply and improve the product.
Extension permissions
activeTab lets the popup read the current page's address when you open it. storage and alarms keep your sign-in and plan on the device and refresh it in the background. The only host permission is for webinternetarchive.com, our own website, so the extension can pick up your sign-in from it. The extension never reads or changes the content of other websites you visit.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not run analytics, telemetry or advertising SDKs inside the extension.
- We do not crawl, archive or store the pages you visit.
- We do not track your browsing history.
Third parties
Archive lookups reach the archives' own services under their own privacy policies (for example the Internet Archive). Authentication and data storage use Supabase; payments use Paddle; hosting uses Vercel. Each of these processes data on our behalf under their respective terms.
Retention and deletion
Account and library data are kept while your account exists. Archive lookup caches expire within 24 hours and are purged after 7 days at most. To delete your account and all associated data, email support@webinternetarchive.com from the address you signed in with; we complete deletion within 30 days. Uninstalling the extension removes everything it stored on your device.
Your rights
Depending on where you live you may have rights to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, or to object to certain processing. Contact us at support@webinternetarchive.com and we will respond within a reasonable time.
Changes
We may update this policy as the product evolves. The effective date above changes when we do, and material changes are announced on the website. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
