01Getting started

What is Web Archive Viewer?

A browser extension that looks up the page you're on — or any URL — across eight public web archives at once: the Wayback Machine, Archive.today, Arquivo.pt, Archive-It, Ghostarchive, UK Web Archive, Trove and Common Crawl. You can open any capture, jump to a date, see what changed and recover pages that have disappeared.

Which browsers does it support?

Chrome (Chrome Web Store), Firefox 140 or newer (Firefox Add-ons) and Microsoft Edge (Edge Add-ons). Brave, Opera, Vivaldi, Arc and other Chromium browsers install it from the Chrome Web Store.

Do I need an account?

No. Finding, opening, archiving and citing pages works without an account. Signing in with Google is only needed for Pro features and the synced research library.

How do I open it?

Click the toolbar icon or press Alt+Shift+A. Alt+Shift+W jumps straight to the current page's Wayback Machine history. Pin the extension to your toolbar so it's always one click away — our install guide shows how in each browser.

Is there a mobile or Safari version?

Not yet. The extension runs on desktop Chrome, Edge and Firefox. On a phone, the archives' own websites work in any browser.

02Archives & lookups

Which web archives are included?

Eight: Wayback Machine (since 1996), Archive.today, Arquivo.pt, Archive-It, Ghostarchive, UK Web Archive, Trove Web Archive and Common Crawl. You can reorder or hide them in Settings. Our guide to Wayback Machine alternatives explains what each is best at.

Why does an archive say it has no copy of a page?

Archives only hold what they crawled or what someone saved. Try the www/non-www and http/https variants (Domain history checks these), the site's home page, or another archive. If nothing exists, use Archive now to save it today.

Why does an archived page look broken?

Archives store the HTML and as many linked files as they could fetch. Missing stylesheets, scripts or images make a capture look unstyled. A capture from a nearby date — or the Archive.today copy, which is rendered in a browser — is often complete.

Does Web Archive Viewer store archived pages?

No. Every lookup links to the archive's own page for that URL. We never store page bodies; our API only caches the archives' answers (capture lists and counts) for up to 24 hours.

Can I archive a page myself?

Yes — Archive now requests a capture from the Wayback Machine, Archive.today or Ghostarchive, or all three at once. It's free. See how to archive a web page permanently.

03Features

What's free and what's Pro?

Free, forever: Search archives, Search All, Timeline, Snapshot by date, Domain history, Archive now, Copy links, Recent lookups and a Library of 25 items with citations. Pro: Compare versions (text, change summary, visual diff), Recover page, SEO & changes with trend charts, Search history, Bulk lookup, Full URL inventory, evidence reports, research export and a synced Library. See pricing.

How do I see what changed between two versions of a page?

Pick two captures in Compare versions. Free opens them side by side; Pro adds a text diff, a change summary (% unchanged, words, headings, prices), metadata and link changes, and a visual diff. Read the compare guide.

Can I recover a page that now returns 404?

Usually. Open the extension on the dead URL to see which archives hold it. Pro's Recover page ranks surviving captures, checks the live status and extracts the readable text. Step-by-step: recover a deleted web page.

How do I cite an archived page?

Save the capture to your Library and copy a citation in APA, MLA, Chicago, BibTeX or Wikipedia format, with the archive URL and date filled in. Formats and examples are in our citation guide.

How many URLs can Bulk lookup check?

Up to 1,000 URLs per run and 500 a day on Pro — pasted, from a sitemap or from the links on the current page. It reports live HTTP status and availability in every archive, exportable as CSV.

What is an evidence report?

A shareable page on webinternetarchive.com built from a Compare or SEO & changes result: captures with archive links, change summary, metadata, links and excerpts, ready to print or save as PDF. Pro accounts can create 20 a day and delete them from Reports.

04Pro & billing

How much does Pro cost?

Pro is available monthly, yearly ($24 a year — about $2 a month) or as a one-time Lifetime purchase. Current prices are on the pricing page.

Who processes payments?

Paddle, our merchant of record. Pay with major cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and other methods Paddle supports in your region. We never store your full card details.

Can I cancel any time?

Yes, from your account page. You keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for.

Do you offer refunds?

Yes — within 14 days of purchase, no questions asked. Details are in Section 7 of the Terms.

Does one Pro plan work in every browser?

Yes. Sign in on webinternetarchive.com in each browser and the extension picks up your account and plan automatically.

05Privacy & account

What data does the extension collect?

It reads the current tab's address only when you open the popup (the activeTab permission). There are no analytics, no telemetry and no ads; recent lookups stay on your device. The full detail is in the Privacy Policy.

Can the extension see my browsing history?

No. It has no history permission and no <all_urls> access — it never reads or changes the content of the websites you visit.

How do I delete my account and data?

Email webarchivecom@gmail.com from the address you signed in with and we delete everything within 30 days. Uninstalling the extension removes everything it stored on your device.

06Troubleshooting

The keyboard shortcut doesn't work.

Another extension may use the same keys. Change them at chrome://extensions/shortcuts (Chrome), edge://extensions/shortcuts (Edge) or Add-ons → ⚙ → Manage Extension Shortcuts (Firefox).

Capture counts don't appear on the archive cards.

Counts come from our API. Check that capture counts are switched on in Settings and, on Firefox, that you allowed site access for webinternetarchive.com. Opening archives works either way.

The extension still shows the Free plan after I upgraded.

Open webinternetarchive.com in a tab while signed in — the extension picks up your plan from there. If it still doesn't update, sign out and in again from the popup's account menu, or contact us.

How do I report a bug or suggest a feature?

Use the contact page or email webarchivecom@gmail.com. We read everything.
